"Nice kill!"

You wiped the sweat that was running down your forehead as you headed to the back of the line. You also high fived nearby teammates to give them slight encouragement as practice went on. When the other girls spiked the ball set to them, you shouted "nice kill" to them. Even when they failed to make a successful spike, you still encouraged them to try harder. Though you were oblivious to it, your teammates greatly appreciated the moral support you supplied. A high pitched sound of the whistle pierced through the loud gym. Everyone stopped what they were doing and headed over to the coach.

"You girls did a great job today," your coach praised. "Tomorrow there will be no practice. Take the day to relax."

Everyone bowed and thanked the coach which was then immediately followed by the girls cleaning the gym. Once everyone was finished, everyone went to the club room together. All of the girls talked amongst themselves as they changed clothes. You, on the other hand, didn't say a word. You quickly changed and informed everyone that you were leaving. As you left you heard an all too familiar voice shout your name.

"[Name]!" you turned to see two familiar faces, your best friend Akaashi Keiji and your boyfriend Bokuto Kotaro. Bokuto ran up to you and loudly asked, "Did you finish practice as well?!"

"Hey," you greeted with a big smile. Seeing Bokuto's wide smile was infectious on you and whenever he was around with his usual grin, you couldn't help but smile. "Yeah. The coach really pushed up harder than usual. Luckily we have tomorrow off. How was your practice?"

"It was great!" Bokuto responded. "I even got a few awesome spikes in.

Akaashi sighed as Bokuto's loud answer. "But there were a few times were you almost hit Konoha in the head," Akaashi commented.

"Akaashi!" Bokuto exclaimed. "You didn't have to tell my girlfriend that!"

You smiled as the two of them bantered as all three of you walked home. "Well at least he didn't hit anyone this time," you commented, defending your boyfriend.

With no hesitation, Bokuto wrapped his arms around you in a tight embrace. As you walked together, Bokuto kept his arms around you while resting his chin on your head. Even though it was a cute moment for you two, Akaashi felt disgusted.

"Can you two get a room?" Akaashi asked bluntly.

"Oh we will," you teased.

You saw Akaashi roll his eyes at your dirty comment, but before you could pester him on it Bokuto let go of you and announced that he was going in a separate direction since his house was nearby. You waved goodbye to him and he responded with a kiss on the cheek.

"Sometimes I wonder how I don't vomit around you guys," Akaashi groaned as the two of you continued walking home.

You playfully punched Akaashi in the arm. Akaashi smiled at you. This was how you guys always were. Akaashi would make a smartass comment and you would either tease him or punch him. That's how you guys have always been ever since you were kids. Though you could be just as annoying as Bokuto, Akaashi didn't want you to change. He loved your playful attitude that only a select few people have been able to witness.

Shortly after Bokuto left, the two of you made it to your house. Before you said your goodbye's, you have him a hug. Akaashi's heart raced and his body tensed up. But once Akaashi wrapped his arms around your body, he couldn't bring himself to let you go. This is one of the few times where Akaashi could hold your warm body. This is one of the few moments where his true feelings emerge, but he could never bring himself to actually tell you how he feels. He knew how much more harm it would do than good. But even then, he just wanted to hold you just a little bit longer.

Sadly his wish was denied when you let go of him. You waved goodbye to your friend. Once you entered your house safe and sound, Akaashi walked home alone. He couldn't stop thinking about how such a simple act like a hug could make him feel so many emotions. Though most of his emotions Akaashi had trouble deciphering there was one thing Akaashi knew.

Akaashi just wants you.

                                                                                    ******

The following day, you decided to do some individual practice. Though the rest of your team was relaxing, you wanted to use this time to hone your abilities. Your teacher even granted you the key to the gym. You used this time to your advantage. Immediately once you opened the gym door. you started your stretches. When you were finished with your stretches, you grabbed the crate with the volleyballs in them and practiced setting the balls. You tried to make sure your form was good as you tossed the ball against the wall. Setting up the ball was one of your main weaknesses. You were so focused on what you were doing, you didn't notice anyone was in the room until you heard Akaashi greet you.

"Hey," Akaashi greeted.

You jumped when you realized he was in the gym with you. You greeted him and then grabbed another volleyball out of the crate. You greeted Akaashi and tried going back to your practice. Akaashi stuffed his hands in his pants pockets and stood there quietly. His heart was racing and he couldn't bring himself to strike up a conversation with you like normal. You looked over at your best friend confused as he was standing there absentmindedly. "Are you ok?" you asked. You had a worried expression on your face. Akaashi is quiet, but you could still tell that something was wrong with him.

"[Name]," Akaashi said quietly . "I need to tell you something."

You tossed the volleyball into the nearby crate and gave Akaashi your full attention. Akaashi still looked stoic as usual, but you knew he was nervous about something.

"I like you [Name]," Akaashi confessed.

You felt your heart drop to your feet. You were speechless at Akaashi's sudden confession. You didn't know how he truly felt about you. You didn't know about the long nights he would where he would just stay up and think about you. You didn't know about the many text conversations that he would often reread over and over again for no particular reason.

Akaashi couldn't even begin to tell you about the emotions he was feeling in this moment. All of the anxiety that was bundled in his mind and the urge just to hold you right now was a lot for him. The urge to kiss you for once was a feat he knew he wouldn't be able to accomplish when he heard your response.

"I'm sorry," you simply said.

In that moment, Akaashi's heart sank. Before you could explain yourself, Bokuto poked his head in the entryway and called for Akaashi. Without another word, Akaashi bowed to you and apologized.

After that Akaashi knew it was final.

He could never have you.

Well there's been a lack of angst, so I took it upon myself to write this instead of studying! :D Needless to say it broke my heart even though it was fairly short, but I hope I didn't crush anyone's feels toooo much. I hope you guys enjoyed it and if you did tell me what you think! Also if the demand is high enough I might write a part 2!

I don't own Haikyuu or any of the characters mentioned. I just own the plot
